Pupil Voice
An important part of Personal Development (PD) at Rydon Primary School is our whole-school commitment to giving pupils a voice. We value the views, wishes, and experiences of our children, and actively seek to understand their perspectives to help shape their learning, wellbeing, and school community.
We achieve this in a variety of ways, including:
- School Council (Years 2–6): Pupils are elected to represent their peers, sharing ideas and contributing to school decisions. They play an active role in improving school life and shaping policies that affect the student body.
- House Captains (Year 6): Our senior pupils take on leadership roles within their houses, organising events, motivating their peers, and helping to foster a sense of teamwork and community across the school.
- School Ambassadors (Year 5): Pupils take on specific responsibilities in areas such as Rights Respecting, Wildlife, Eco-Friendly initiatives, Mental Health, and Anti-Bullying. These roles provide leadership opportunities and encourage children to advocate for causes that are important to them.
- Rydon REPS (Year 6): Senior pupils act as peer mentors and role models, supporting younger children and promoting a positive and inclusive school environment.
- Assemblies: Regular whole-school and class assemblies provide opportunities for pupils to express their ideas, celebrate achievements, and engage with important topics.
- Questionnaires and Surveys: Children contribute feedback on various aspects of school life, helping staff understand their experiences and make improvements where needed.
- Curriculum Deep Dives and Learning Conversations: Staff regularly engage with pupils about their learning, offering structured opportunities to discuss their progress, interests, and any concerns.
Through these initiatives, we aim to create a culture where pupils feel heard, respected, and empowered to influence their school community.
