Citizenship

At Rydon Primary School, we believe schools have a vital role to play within their local context, and we have a strong ambition to nurture and develop citizenship in every child.

Our children are confident and responsible learners who make the most of their abilities. They have high aspirations not only for themselves but also for their peers, our school, our trust, our community, and even the wider world. We encourage them to embrace every opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Through our Wider World Culture badge, children explore meaningful links with organisations, schools, and charities, helping them to develop an understanding of and respect for the many ways people live across the world.

We recognise the importance of teamwork and collaboration, which is one of our core school values. Children learn what it means to be part of a team and understand that working together makes us stronger. They are encouraged to collaborate across classes, year groups, schools, and beyond, building valuable relationships and skills for life.

We also believe that everyone is a leader. Through our Leading the Way badge, children are encouraged to explore leadership in many forms, acting as role models and developing confidence in their abilities. Our children are the leaders of tomorrow, and we create rich opportunities for pupils to work in teams and learn by leading both within their schools and across the trust.

Our children are supported in having a voice and using it positively. They are engaged and active participants in school life, contributing their thoughts and ideas within our school, our trust, and the wider community. This helps them to learn how to express themselves responsibly and with respect.

We place a high value on serving the community. Children are encouraged to engage with local charities, groups, and organisations, giving their time and energy to make a positive difference. Through our Local Community Involvement badge, we promote connection, belonging, and responsibility, helping children understand the value of contributing to the world around them.

We are also committed to raising awareness of the environment. Through Environmental Activities and Awareness, children take part in discussion, debate, and direct action to learn how to care for and improve the natural environment, developing a sense of responsibility for the world in which we live.

Finally, we want every child to understand the importance of leaving a legacy. However long they are part of our school and trust, we encourage them to leave their mark, making a lasting contribution both within our school and in the wider world.
