SCHOOL UNIFORM

Rydon Primary School Uniform Guidance

At Rydon Primary School we expect children to dress in an appropriate manner for school and for the activities that they are undertaking in the curriculum. A shared uniform brings about a sense of belonging and pride. We very much appreciate your continued support by ensuring that all children adhere to the school uniform policy. Please note that any uniform adjustments for SEND pupils should be discussed with the SENDCo in the first instance. Please email the office to arrange a meeting or a phone call.

The recognised Rydon School uniform is detailed below:

  • Collared white shirt/blouse with school tie

  • Grey/black trousers/skirt/pinafore

  • Grey socks

  • Maroon V-neck jumper/cardigan

  • Plain black shoes/ankle boots - in order for children to participate in day-to-day physical activity, such as playtimes, school shoes need to be fit for this purpose. All open-toed sandals, shoes with a heel or those prone to slipping off are considered inappropriate.

For EYFS and KS1 children we suggest the following items to aid dressing independently:

  • Short sleeved shirt

  • Elasticated school tie

  • Velcro plain black shoes

In warmer weather from April to September (inclusive) children can also choose to wear the following:

  • Red stripe or check dresses with plain white/grey socks.

  • Grey/black trouser-shorts with plain white/grey socks

Children should not wear make-up (including nail polish) or items of jewellery at school. The exception to this rule is earrings.  In such cases these must, for safety reasons, be of a plain stud type; no rings. hoops or drop designs will be allowed.  Children who wear earrings will be required to cover these or remove them for PE/active lessons in line with the guidance from The Association for Physical Education (AfPE). All long hair should be held/tied back with hair bands and clips etc of an appropriate simple type that are of those colours as depicted in our school uniform. It is requested that hair should be natural in colour and that extremes of ‘fashion’ avoided ie tramlines.

  • Please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school on sunny days.

  • If your child is prone to burning and you feel they may need an additional application please send in a labelled bottle of      sunscreen, which your child should give to their  teacher.

  • Your child will be able to apply their sunscreen to themselves when needed, under the  supervision of a staff member.

Please be aware  that certain sun creams do contain nut oils. We ask that these brands are not bought to school as we have pupils and staff with severe allergies.
