Information for New Parents
School Day
School begins at 9.00am. The classroom gates are open from 8.45am where a member of staff will be waiting to greet your child. Some children might find it harder than others to leave their parent at the school gate initially. We will do our best to support a smooth transition and make this a happy process for your child and yourselves.
Parents are requested to contact the school on 01626 356420 if a child is absent for whatever reason i.e. illness, medical/dental appointments. If absence from school is required for an appointment, please contact the office or your child’s class teacher.
School finishes at 3.15pm. The children will leave by the front door of the classroom which opens up onto the front playground. Please wait on the front playground in a position where your child can easily spot you. You will need to inform your child’s class teacher with the names of the trusted adults that you give permission to collect your child. At the end of the school day, if an adult will be collecting your child who is not on the permission form then you would need to contact the school office to inform them.
Lunchtimes
Lunch break is from 12.00-1.00pm. EYFS children go first for their lunch at 12.00pm in the hall. They can bring in a healthy packed lunch from home or have a school dinner. Children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 are offered a free school lunch. There are 3 school dinners options: hot dinner, vegetarian hot dinner or a sandwich. All lunches come with a pudding and a drink. Please complete the online form/email school office if your child has any allergies and the kitchen staff will be informed. If your child brings in a packed lunch from home, please ensure it is nut/seed free as we have many children in school with severe nut/seed allergies.
Mealtime assistants are in the hall to help your child at lunchtimes.
Once your child has finished their lunch they have a playtime in the playground.·
Where parents or carers are in receipt of either Income Support, Income Based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Child Tax Credit (without Working Tax Credit) or Employment and Support Allowance (income related), you will need to apply for a free school meal entitlement, even if your child does not have a school meal. This is most important for the school as it has a direct benefit to the school’s budget and means that the school will receive additional funding in the budget to support your child’s education.
Playtimes
Children have a playtime, lunch playtime and a golden mile session each day. We try hard to ensure that all new children are given as much support as they require to help them feel safe and happy. Members of staff are on duty each playtime to ensure this happens. Children are encouraged to tell an adult if they are upset, lonely or have hurt themselves.
Qualified first aiders’ are available each playtime if your child accidentally falls. They may come home with a bump note in their book bags if they have had to have first aid administered. Please check book bags daily. At lunchtimes, mealtime assistants will be available on the playground to support your child, along with responsible Rydon Reps (Year 6 buddies).
For morning play your child will need to bring a piece of fruit as a snack and a drink of water in a named drinks bottle. Please name fruit as well.
For afternoon play your child will be able to have a piece of fruit provided by the free fruit for schools scheme and a carton of milk provided by the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme. Please sign up for this, see details in your pack.
Medicines
Only medicines prescribed by your child’s GP may be administered by a qualified first aider and after a medical form has been filled in (available from the office). The medicine will be administered at 12.00 noon only. This form also needs to be filled in for asthma sufferers who require their inhalers as and when. Inhalers and the forms are then kept in a designated area in school which is accessible during the school day with adult supervision. Please inform your child’s teacher of any medical conditions / allergies and complete the online form.
Head Lice
This is something which can affect children. There is no stigma attached to this and head lice tend to prefer clean hair. Please keep your child’s hair tied up and check your child regularly. If your child contracts them please inform your child’s teacher and an email will then be sent out to all parents whose child is in that year group asking them to check their child’s hair.
